In the film, Jaswant Singh Gill (played by Akshay Kumar) arrives in Raniganj accompanied by his pregnant wife Nazukta (portrayed by Parineeti Chopra). Nazukta is employed as a rescue engineer at Coal India Limited Company.
Following an explosion in the mine that leads to it being inundated with water, Jaswant, now tasked with the role of a rescue engineer, takes on the responsibility of saving the lives of 71 individuals trapped underground.
